Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine to the soul.
~Luther Burbank
I've been wanting flowers in the house for awhile. All the rain and clouds make me want some type of bright cheeriness inside.
Instead of buying some to let die in a vase and hear Brandon moan and groan over it I decided to make some paper carnations.
I happen to love the simplicity and beauty of carnations.
Not to mention the are my birth month's flower.
These little red beauties are brightening up my kitchen.
As soon as I can get my hands on some green pipe cleaners I'll be making more for the dining room and our bedroom.
There is just something about flowers in the house that makes me very happy.
Today's activity was to make a hand puppet. Specifically, a stegosaurus.
I was alittle nervous letting him use the glue, but overall he did a really good job. Didn't even make a mess or have a tantrum!
He has been enjoying making his puppet roar!
He will now be joining me in the kitchen to start dinner. Split pea soup, mashed sweet potatoes, and garlic bread. A wonderful warm dinner for this dreary rainy day.
And lastly...
You asked for it!
Here is the recipe for these super yummy almost guilt free brownies!
2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup Truvia (or zero calorie sweetner of your choice)
1/2 cup organic sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1tsp salt
1 cup water
3/4 cup applesauce
1tsp vanilla
*Preheat oven to 350*
1. Mix the flour, sugars, cocoa, baking powder, and salt together in a large bowl.
2. Pour in water and vanilla. Mix well.
3. Add in applesauce and mix completely.
~If the batter is too gummy/thick add a smidge more water. The batter should be thickish but not un stirable. (I hope that makes sense!)
4. Pam a 9x13in baking pan. Pour in battter, spread out evenly.
- I added a small handfull of chopped walnuts to the top of mine before baking.
5. Bake for 25-30 mins. The inside will be moist but done.
Cut up and spinkle powdered sugar on top.... ENJOY!
